It all started when two guys with a passion for football formed the club starting with their two sons and boys from the Fosters and St Stephens primary schools. Derrick adopted the rolls of Team Manager, Club Secretary and Treasurer, while Kevin adopted the rolls of Club Chairman and team coach.
The club name came about because Kevin played for Blackheath WANDERERS and Derrick played for Australian Club Earlwood WANDERERS.
A competition among the boys was held to design the original club badge, a Laurel was used to show the association with Welling's Roman Road, and the cannon to represent the Russian Cannon in Welling High Street, which represents Welling's association with the Woolwich Arsenal which manufactured and tested weapons.
Sadly Derrick is no longer with us but his memory will live on within Welling Wanderers.
