Game Report:
With no training or games for the last 2 weeks because of the great weather, I started to worry that all we had achieved and the progression the team has made would be forgotten. I really shouldn’t have worried. With every team member now knowing what their main position is, the team looked stronger than ever. Right from the kick off it was all Welling with a barrage of constant attack and our first goal coming after only a couple of minutes. A great through ball by Mussy slotted Tugrul through for his first of what would later turn into a hatrick. The early goal just seemed to give Welling even more confidence to keep pushing forward and apply as much pressure as possible. In the end Beacons caved again this time a defensive error lead to an own goal and Welling where 2 up and seemingly coasting to another win. Beacons did manage 1 or 2 attacks in the first half where either 1 half of our defensive rockstars (Yvan) or our new super keeper Junior put a stop to any advances. The first half was then rounded off by yet another superb pass by Mussy again putting Tugrul through on goal for his second of the morning. The team composure for the first half was absolutely excellent. We had future defensive star Yvan and his brother Axel holding the fought in front of new super keeper Junior with our midfield enforcer Dominik making his presence well and truly known with a string of flying tackles. We then had the determination and vision of our midfield maestro’s Bernie and Mussy always attacking and passing up to our lone ranger Tugrul who has a knack for hitting the back of the net. With our utility man Denzel slotting into any position he is asked to play, rounded off a great first half!
The second half was pretty much the same as the first, constant pressure from Welling, more great defending, excellent passing from midfield and more goals. The second half saw another assist from Mussy making it a hatrick of assists, a third goal for Tugrul completing his hatrick, a magnificent solo darting run rounded off with a goal from Bernie and a superb lobbed goal from Dominik. A great game for Welling!
Focus Areas
More practice on corners and the different options available when taking a corner including player positioning.
Man of the Match:
Tugrul Akgul.
One of the hardest weeks to pick a man of the match as everyone played really well and should be proud of their individual performances. In the end it came down to a decision between 2 players Tugrul with his hatrick and Mussy for his 3 assists and determination. I really couldn’t make a decision on this one and put my dilemma to a couple of parents who both felt that scoring the hatrick just warranted the award. Mussy must be wondering what he needs to do having come close 2 weeks in a row now. All credit to Tugrul for the way he slotted home his chances. A great performance
Team Performance:
Axel ‘Arteta’………. Another week of an improved performance. Getting more and more confident with each game played
Bernie ‘Gerrard’…….. Amazing vision with passes and able to take on players as shown with his solo goal
Denzel ‘Wright-Phillips’……. Used all over the pitch as his versatility means he can play anywhere!
Dominik ‘Joey Barton’……… very much the team enforcer. Not afraid to tackle or pass and will run the length of the pitch to do it.
Junior ‘’Hart’………. Our new keeper looked comfortable in goal and is exactly what the team has been missing.
Mussy ‘Scholes’……. Another near man of the match performance. 3 assists and unrivalled determination to always be wherever the ball is. Team captain this week and done exactly what a captain should do
Tugrul ‘Suarez’……… Has become our lone ranger. 3 goals earned him his man of the match award for the week
Yvan ‘Djourou’…….. One half of our newly named defensive rockstars. Probably the teams most improved player and never let the side down.
Parents Performance:
Once again the parents done the team proud. Only full of encouragement for the kids and always smiling. If the kids see the parents smiling, then they are more likely to smile and enjoy themselves further. Well done everyone
Managers Note:
Probably my proudest moment so far. The team is really starting to gel together and seeing the end results of the hard work that everyone is putting in gives me a great sense of happiness. With the prospect of knowing that the team will only get better makes me excited for the rest of the season.
Additional Notes:
We have now ordered our new kit which should hopefully be ready in a couple of weeks. The kit will be sponsored by Sefa’s Barbers which is located at the start of Welling High Street (just past the railway bridge).
