Game Report:
Stanford Red are already an established team which was highly evident in the first 10-15 minutes as Welling Wanderers were pinned back in their own half by a well drilled team. A couple of quick goals for Stanford seemed to give them yet more confidence, however, Welling Wanderers failed to let their heads drop in what can only be explained as a truly magnificent effort by all to get back into the game and show Stanford just how good Welling Wanderers will be. Mid way through the half and Welling gained their first break, an interception from Bernie left him clear and running on goal, if it wasn’t for the pressure from 2 Stanford defenders, we could have had our first goal. An excellent attempt. Stanford which could have scored more if Welling Wanderers were not all helping out at the back as they were!
After half time, Welling Wanderers switched formation from 2-2-2 to 1-3-2 meaning we had the extra man in the middle to hopefully get some sort of break which finally came at the start of the half. With Stanford on the attack, our lone defender Dominik put in a challenge that enabled the ball to be passed back to Mussy in goal. A fantastic clearance up field landed at Denzel’s feet who with the help of Yvan was able to get the ball through to Bernie. A little darting run from Bernie with Axel alongside split Standord and Bernie was able to pass to Tugrul who slotted the ball home for Welling Wanderers first goal. Just the confidence Welling needed! Passing from here on started to reach its destination, Dominik in defence by himself was helped a great deal by the midfield trio, all 4 players putting in tackles all over the place with Yvam and Axel dropping back into midfield were needed. A couple of blinding saves from Mussy in goal stopped the score being higher than it was. After conceding a further 2 goals, Welling strike again. This time Yvan won the ball from Stanford in midfield, after taking on 2 players and getting near Stanford’s box, a little threaded pass through to Tugrul and the ball was again in the back of the net for Welling’s second goal!!!
After the final whistle, all boys shook hands and congratulated each other and come off the pitch smiling! A great effort by everyone.

Man of the Match:
Bernie Holt.
Bernie never stopped giving 110% and you could guarantee that wherever the ball was, Bernie wasn’t far behind. He was tackling, passing and making his presence known all over the pitch. A great effort, well done Bernie!!!
Team Performance:
An excellent performance by all. It was our first game and we achieved what most new teams take at least 6 games to gain…….a goal!!! And we got 2!
Axel…… easily one of the smallest player on the pitch and grew more and more in confidence as the game went on. Excellent
Bernie…..an inspirational performance that earned him man of the match. Inspirational
Denzel…..was never fazed and even though he got hurt, he continued and never let the team down. Fantastic
Dominik…..an absolute rock in defence by himself, superb tackles and not afraid to get stuck in. Awesome
Mussy……tried to push the team forward from defence and stepped up in goal for the second half with a string of fine saves. Brilliant
Tugrul……2 goals and vocally made his presence known, excellent performance. Dazzling
Yvan…..with an assist and tireless display in midfield, a great all round performance. Dynamite
Parents Performance:
All kids arrived promptly and appropriately dressed for the team talk and warm-up. Parents were encouraging the whole team and the atmosphere was friendly . Your support for the kids was exemplary!!
Additional Notes:
I will be working on a rotation system position wise to I will talk through with the kids at training. My aim is to give everyone the chance and experience of playing in every position. It will mean that they will have to play in positions they don’t like during some weeks
- We will need in the next couple of weeks to sort out payment for the team. This is going to be a signing on fee of £15 and then a £15 per month payment. This will pay for pitch hire, trophies, Easter eggs and hopefully a Christmas treat for the players
- If there is anything you need to discuss about the team, please do let me know, you can either contact me via a phone call, e-mail or have a word either before or after training
As manager of the team, I can’t stress enough how pleased I was with all the kids performance and attitudes. They all done themselves, their parents and me proud and all deserve a lot of congratulations from the game.
