Welling Wanderers awarded Football foundation Grant

Thanks to £5,000 funding boost Footballers in Welling, Kent, were celebrating today following a £5,000 grant awarded by the Football Foundation, the UK’s largest sports charity.

The cash bonanza will enable Welling Wanderers Junior Football Club to provide an Under-7s team over the next three years.

Welling Wanderers are currently embarking on their 17th year as a local junior football club providing the opportunity for children from 7 to 17 to play football. In doing so they also provide many volunteers the opportunity to achieve FA coaching badges.

Under the new project they are looking to attract children aged five-to-seven years old. The new members will meet once weekly with help from charlton in the community

The Football Foundation is dedicated to revitalising the grass roots of the game, constructing modern football facilities, developing football as a force for social cohesion and as a vehicle for education in communities throughout the country. Funded by the Premier League, The Football Association and the Government, the Football Foundation is the nation’s largest sports charity with a £40m budget going straight into the heart of football.

Grassroots football will not always produce professional footballers, but Ian Gayle was one that Welling Wanderers produced. He took time out to come and visit his old club and hand out new kits to the under 7s team.

One of the many polite and respectful young men that have played for Welling Wanderers.
